Godts misses, just like Olise and Doué, while France stays indifferent

Marc Degryse would have liked to see Mika Godts start for Belgium in the Nations League‑duel with France. The Red Devils, after taking an early 0‑1 lead, eventually succumbed to a 4‑1 defeat, prompting Degryse to emphasize the absence of Godts afterwards.

Degryse's wish for Godts

Degryse, who wore the Red Devils' shirt 63 times in the past, stated that he would have liked to see Godts in the starting lineup. He felt that the young striker constantly creates threat, both with technical actions and with speed.

After an early 0‑1 lead for Belgium, France turned the match around and finished with a 4‑1 victory. The result left Degryse even more convinced that Godts' absence was a crucial factor.

‘Godts is like Michael Olise and Désiré Doué, albeit at a different level: they are the kind of players who push a defence back,’ Degryse said. He emphasized that these players force the opponent to slow down their defensive lines.

‘A defender knows: “If I press forward, I will be seen sooner or later,”’ Degryse said, indicating that defenders must automatically hold back against players like Godts. This dynamic makes it difficult to break down the French line.

Godts' replacement, Diego Moreira, received little attention from the French defence according to Degryse. He described Moreira as more of a runner than a player with individual actions, making him appear less dangerous.
