Getafe eyes free‑agent Nemanja Gudelj ahead of Ajax‑Getafe showdown
Ajax's 9‑5 aggregate triumph over FC Sion on Thursday secured their place in the Conference League main tournament and set up a home meeting with Getafe, a tie that revives a contentious 2019‑2020 Europa League encounter. The Dutch side will look for revenge after the Spanish club's hard‑tackling display that knocked Ajax out two seasons ago.
Transfer speculation heats up
Hours after the group draw, reporter Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Getafe are close to signing Nemanja Gudelj, who has been a free agent since leaving Sevilla. The Spaanse club hopes to strengthen its roster with the free‑agent midfielder.
Gudelj, a Serbian midfielder, featured for Ajax between 2015 and 2017, also turning out for NAC Breda and AZ, and recorded 59 official appearances and seven goals for the Dutch club.
The Amsterdamse club learned its full group schedule the following day, facing Atalanta Bergamo at home, FC Midtjylland away, Getafe at home, Sint‑Truidense VV away, Hajduk Split away and FC Thun at home.
The fixture list was announced with the line “In de Conference League”, underscoring the competition’s importance.
If the agreement finalises, Gudelj would return to Ajax nine years after his controversial departure, adding a personal storyline to the upcoming home tie.
