Getafe eye Sergio Ramos as January option – President Torres on list
In the studio of Tablero Deportivo, the programme of Radio Nacional, Getafe president Angel Torres explained that Sergio Ramos is on the club’s internal list of potential signings. The 40‑year‑old defender, currently a free agent, is a topic that has occupied the club for some time, and talks with his brother and agent René are already underway.
Ramos in focus after Carvajal‑move
Following the signing of Dani Carvajal, who only last week joined the “Azulones”, the club’s interest now turns to another Real‑Madrid legend. Carvajal, 34, comes from Madrid and is expected in Getafe’s starting eleven. Should Ramos follow, the two would already have played a combined 236 matches for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.
Torres stressed, however, that despite Ramos’s availability as a free player, another centre‑back is not currently a priority. Instead, Getafe is primarily looking for reinforcements on the wing, with former BVB star Jadon Sancho mentioned as a possible candidate.
Janus‑option and time frame
The club chief left open that Ramos is mainly being considered for the January transfer window, should a centre‑back be needed. “It’s not too late for the 40‑year‑old former world‑class player,” Torres affirmed. Ramos played his last competitive match in December 2025 for Mexican top‑flight side CF Monterrey, whose contract expired at the end of last year; since 1 January he has been a free agent.
Ramos’s impressive record includes 671 competitive appearances for Real Madrid, four Champions‑League titles, 180 caps for Spain, two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup. His career began at Sevilla FC, followed by spells at Paris Saint‑Germain, a return to Sevilla and most recently Monterrey.
A possible move to Getafe would link Ramos not only with Carvajal, but also with a renewed collaboration with former teammates from Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. Both players were instrumental in four Champions‑League triumphs, with Carvajal winning two additional titles after Ramos’s departure from Madrid.
