Germany's Bisseck starts, Schlotterbeck sits out in Nations League

Germany faces Greece shadow man Yann Aurel Bisseck in the Nations League duel, while Nico Schlotterbeck gets a break. The contrast between the centre‑back's rise and the young defender's hiatus shapes the line‑up for the second match.

Bisseck's rise at Inter Milan

Yann Aurel Bisseck has been a regular member of Inter's starting eleven since December 2025. According to the UEFA club ranking, Inter Milan is the fifth‑best team in all of Europe. Last season the “Nerrazurri” won the Italian double of the league title and the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League final the previous year.

The 25‑year‑old centre‑back has played 1,630 of 1,890 league minutes since his goal in the 2‑1 victory over Genoa on 14 December. In all domestic competitions he missed only 408 of 2,340 minutes – that equals 83 percent of the total playing time. He made his debut for the German national team in March 2025 in a 3‑3 draw against Italy, the country of his employer, when he was substituted on with 13 minutes left.

Schlotterbeck loses his place, Klopp reacts

Nico Schlotterbeck is given a break for the Nations League duel by head coach Jürgen Klopp. The Borussia Dortmund defender had only recently returned from a ligament tear in his ankle after the World Cup, but Klopp now backs Bisseck.

Klopp also plans a change in goal for his first home match, while Max Rosenfelder from SC Freiburg remains the only other newcomer in the squad. Bisseck's chance to start in the second half of Klopp's first training camp could be his last opportunity to establish himself in the DFB.

Although Bisseck has reached a market value of €50 million since his signing with Inter in 2023, he has so far remained in the shadow of the national team. He stresses in a Sportschau interview that the most important thing is to deliver performances and continue developing. His sole nomination for the Euro squad has so far not materialised, but the current starting‑eleven placement could turn the tide.

The contrast between Bisseck's breakthrough at the European top club and Schlotterbeck's hiatus highlights how strongly Jürgen Klopp's decisions can affect an individual career. The upcoming match will show whether the shadow man finally steps into the light.
