German federation eyes Nagelsmann successor as Klopp nears deal

🇩🇪 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

A contract running to the summer of 2030 marks the first concrete step toward appointing Jürgen Klopp as the Duitse federation’s Nagelsmann-opvolger, after a principle agreement announced today at 14:29 between Klopp and the DFB, as reported by Sky Sport.

The role requires the new coach to succeed Julian Nagelsmann as the head of the Duitsland national team. Klopp’s appointment would place the 59‑year‑old at the helm of the German side.

The announcement arrived shortly after the WK‑uitschakeling of Duitsland, when the DFB publicly stated its intention to install Klopp. The federation had already earmarked the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund assistant as its ideal Nagelsmann-opvolger.

Klopp previously served as assistant‑trainer at Liverpool before moving to Borussia Dortmund, where he earned a reputation as a top tactician. His experience at those clubs makes him the dream candidate to replace Nagelsmann.

Both parties confirmed the principle agreement after a meeting in New York, where Klopp is expected to sign a contract lasting until the summer of 2030. Only a handful of contractual details remain to be finalised.

Voordat the 59‑year‑old Duitser can assume the national team job, he must depart from his current position at Red Bull. He presently holds the title of Head of Global Soccer with the club.
