Furious Parkinson hints at busy window after Birmingham loss

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, furious after his Welsh side’s 2‑1 home defeat to Birmingham City on Friday evening, said he expected the club could be busy for the rest of the transfer window, hinting at potential signings despite the loss.

Parkinson was left annoyed by the two soft goals his side conceded, calling them “two of the softest goals we’ve conceded in all my time here”. He added that the team “looked like a side that was looking around for someone else to make something happen rather than take responsibility”. Transfer speculation intensifies

When asked whether the club would be active, Parkinson gave a single word – “possibly” – and refused to comment on rumours linking Wrexham with an ambitious move for Pavel Sulc. The manager’s fury over the performance was evident, yet he acknowledged the “lot of talk around the transfer window and uncertainty”.

Sulc, the 25‑year‑old who netted 14 goals for Lyon last season, is reported as a target for a club‑record signing. Lyon paid €7.5 million for him, and his versatility as a second striker or false nine has attracted attention.

European football expert Andy Brassell told talkSPORT.com that Sulc “would become the best player in the Championship if he makes the move”. He praised Sulc’s technical ability, movement and resilience despite a modest physique, suggesting he could be “pretty close” to the division’s top talent.

Parkinson said the squad would “start tomorrow morning and think of where to go”, indicating that scouting and negotiations could begin imminently. He also warned that the team must improve before the next challenge at Millwall, urging the players to “come out hard and fighting”.
