World Cup YOUTH

From French youth star to Morocco’s pride: Bouaddi has no regrets

By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Eighteen-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi has no regrets over representing Morocco at the World Cup, even after their elimination. The Lille OSC midfielder spoke after the 2-0 quarter-final defeat to France on Friday evening.

Bouaddi, born in Senlis, France, had previously represented the French youth national teams from 2022 onwards. His decision to switch allegiance to Morocco was made in May, when he made his debut for the Atlas Lions.

The teenager quickly became a sensation at the tournament, helping Morocco eliminate the Netherlands en route to the quarter-finals. Despite the early exit, Bouaddi remains unwavering in his commitment to the Moroccan shirt.

“This is a choice from the heart,” Bouaddi said. “I am incredibly proud to represent Morocco, no matter what happens.” He added that the team’s priority is to make the Moroccan people proud by giving their all in every match.

Morocco’s World Cup campaign ended with a quarter-final defeat to France, the nation Bouaddi could have chosen to play for. Yet the midfielder insists his decision was driven by emotion and loyalty to his heritage.
