From Championship to Europe: Clyne’s decade at Palace ends

The 25‑year‑old full‑back announced the news in an interview with Palace TV, reflecting on the club’s evolution.

Palace pursued Clyne originally because he is a product of their academy, rising through the ranks to make his senior debut in October 2008 against Barnsley in the Championship. His home‑grown status and familiarity with the club’s culture made him an attractive long‑term left‑back.

After that debut, Clyne amassed more than 250 appearances for the Eagles across two stints, demonstrating durability and experience. He spent an eight‑year hiatus from Selhurst Park, joining Southampton in 2012 before representing Liverpool and Bournemouth, before being re‑signed by Palace in October 2020.

England centre‑back under serious Liverpool consideration

Although he did not feature on the pitch in the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League final victories, Clyne was named on the bench for all three matches under manager Oliver Glasner, highlighting his continued relevance within the squad.

Speaking to club media, Clyne said: "When I started at Crystal Palace we were in the Championship. Now the club is playing European football, having nights like we did in Leipzig. I'm just so happy that I've been a part of that, it's meant so much to me and my family." He added that the last few seasons gave him "some of the best days of my life" and expressed pride in his achievements.

Clyne’s exit means Palace lose a seasoned professional who embodied their rise from the Championship to European competition, while the former England international can now seek a new challenge after a career that also includes 14 caps for his country.
