Frimpong's new setback: Xavi drops him from Nations League squad

From regular starter to worry child – Jeremie Frimpong has to accept the next setback with the Dutch national team, because he is not in the 23-man squad for the Nations League match against Serbia. The former Leverkusen player remains left out by national team coach Xavi, after he also did not get any playing time against Germany.

From the officially submitted squad list to UEFA for the Netherlands it emerges that Frimpong is not among the 23 players for the match against Serbia. A photo of the squad confirms that he is not among the listed players.

In the Nations League duel against Germany the game ended 1-1, but Frimpong remained unused and spent the full 90 minutes on the bench. This shows that he was not part of the coaches' plans already in the previous match.

The situation continues for the Liverpool professional, as he has also recently lost his regular place at his club. In training he now has to fight with the other players for more playing time.

The first two Nations League games under the new national team coach Xavi suggest that Frimpong currently does not play a major role in the Dutch national coach's plans. Xavi has signalled that he prefers other options for the upcoming matches.

Whether the decision applies only to the Serbia match or Frimpong must generally fight for his place in the national team remains unclear. For the 23-year-old Dutchman it now means that he must prove himself for more playing time both at club level and with the national team.
