Frankrijk dominates Marokko

🇫🇷 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·
Frankrijk has convincingly reached the halve finales of the WK. Under the leadership of Kylian Mbappé, the Fransen were too strong for Marokko, which barely got a foothold: 2-0. Mbappé made the opening goal himself after an hour of play in the scorching Boston. Six minutes later, Golden Ball winner Ousmane Dembélé made it 2-0. In the halve finales, Frankrijk will face the winner of the match between Spanje and België, on Friday evening in Los Angeles. Frankrijk started with the familiar eleven and the super quartet Désiré Doué, Michael Olise, Mbappé, and Dembélé up front. At Marokko, Chemsdine Talbi had a basic place due to the absence of the injured Ismael Saibari. The Fransen shot out of the starting blocks. Within five minutes, keeper Yassine Bounou had already kept an attempt by Mbappé and a header by Dayot Upamecano out of his goal. After a foul by the Dutch Marokkaan Noussair Mazraoui on Mbappé, the Fransen were awarded a penalty in the 25th minute. Who else but Mbappé took the penalty, but due to a VAR-check, it took a while before he could shoot. After Mbappé also had to place the ball on the spot, the Fransman was finally allowed to take the penalty. His attempt was not good, and keeper Bounou did not even have to stretch to catch the ball. The missed penalty did not dampen the French storm. The in Frankrijk born Marokkaanse talent Ayyoub Bouaddi was not sharp, and Doué was able to profit, but again Bounou was the saving angel for Marokko. After the French left-back Lucas Digne had hit the top of the bar, it was half-time. That Marokko had survived the first half without a goal was a small miracle. After the break, Olise set Mbappé free for Bounou after a beautiful action, but again the Real Madrid player did not have his aim sharp. Would it be one of those evenings for the French star? No, in the 60th minute, his moment arrived. In a fabulous way, Mbappé curled the ball flawlessly into the far corner. Even the outstanding Bounou had no answer to this (1-0). Six minutes later, Dembélé made it 2-0. He also placed the ball in the corner, although Bounou was still there. For Dembélé, it was his fifth goal of the tournament, for Mbappé his eighth, making him the joint top scorer with Lionel Messi. Frankrijk could then calmly play out the game to the final signal, although there was a brief scare when Mbappé sat on the ground and asked for a substitution. Given the way he waved to the audience when he left the field, it didn't seem too serious. Marokko only got a few chances in the final phase, but it was not enough to disturb Frankrijk. The team of coach Didier Deschamps can prepare for a halve finale against Spanje or België, on Tuesday evening in Dallas.
