Frankfurt BVB jewel gets first-team chance against Eintracht

In the Westfalenstadion there is tense anticipation as the Black-Yellows prepare for the duel against Eintracht Frankfurt. As the Ruhr Nachrichten report, the 17‑year‑old Luxembourgian Enzo dos Santos is called up to the matchday squad for the first time and sits on the bench. The coach hopes that the young midfielder can close the gap in the centre.

Hendrik, as the Ruhr Nachrichten report, Enzo dos Santos belongs to the matchday squad of Borussia Dortmund for the first time. The 17‑year‑old Luxembourgian has established himself in central midfield. Once again a youth player receives his first squad place. His debut in the first team marks a significant step after his move in January 2025 from the U17 of Hesperingen in Luxembourg to the BVB's youth performance centre.

Lack of Midfield Options

Currently the Black-Yellows lack in midfield the Greek duo Giannis Konstantelias, who is in a rehabilitation program after an ACL tear, and Konstantinos Karetsas, who is recovering from an ankle injury. In addition, veteran Emre Can is also out with an ACL tear. These absences once again create opportunities for young talents like Dos Santos.

In contrast to Dos Santos, the talents Mathis Albert and Luca Reggiani will not sit on the bench. Both played on Friday for the BVB‑U23 in the Regionalliga West against Bonner SC and contributed to the 2‑0 victory, further solidifying the league lead.

Current Form and Outlook

Most recently Borussia Dortmund experienced two disappointing matches in the Bundesliga. Against Werder Bremen the Westphalians let a comfortable 2‑0 lead slip away in the final minutes and drew the game 2‑2. In the subsequent encounter with Union Berlin it remained a goalless 0‑0.

A home win against the defensively unstable Eintracht Frankfurt is now seen as a must to regain the fans' confidence. At the same time, BVB is already looking ahead to the next Bundesliga match at FC Bayern Munich, which is expected to be difficult to win. Between the two Bundesliga fixtures Dortmund will host Werder Bremen again in the DFB‑Cup, seeking revenge.

The coach hopes that Dos Santos' fresh energy will invigorate the midfield and lead the team to a convincing performance. A victory would strengthen the supporters' confidence and ease the upcoming duel against FC Bayern Munich.
