FIFA drops Forward Enterprise as confederations reject World Cup stake
FIFA announced on Saturday that it will scrap the FIFA Forward Enterprise project after UEFA, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL rejected the plan to sell a 20% stake in the new commercial and operational company that was to run the men’s and women’s World Cups and other Cups.
The abandoned scheme, called the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), was intended to manage the men’s and women’s World Cups and other competitions. Its most contentious element was the planned sale of a 20% stake to private investors.
Thrive Eternal, founded by Joshua Kushner, was earmarked as the lead investor for the 20% stake. The firm declined to comment on the development.
UEFA’s rejection was joined by CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation and CONMEBOL, each voicing concerns. Together these three confederations represent the majority of FIFA’s member associations.
In a statement released early on Saturday, President Gianni Infantino said, “The FIFA Forward Enterprise project was intended to provide a basis for further strengthening our FIFA Member Associations and our sport worldwide, especially in those countries where support is most needed.” He emphasized the project's ambition to aid nations that need support.
He added that after listening to all views, it became clear the project had created divisions contrary to its original aim. “Our purpose has always been – and will always be – to unite and improve. As a result, this proposal will not proceed,” Infantino said.

The fallout also saw senior adviser Carlos Cordeiro resign. Chief operating officer Kevin Lamour described the initiative to the Associated Press as “a project of one person.”
Infantino concluded by saying his intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks, stressing a shared interest in growing football everywhere, particularly in nations that most need support. He urged the confederations to re‑engage with FIFA on the matter.
