Ferencváros secures Europa League slot, sets Twente clash

By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

In the early evening, Ferencváros already sat firmly in the saddle after a 1‑2 first‑leg win, giving the Green Eagles a comfortable feeling as they prepared for the return match. The atmosphere was charged, and today the Hungarian side knew a 5‑1 aggregate over FK Vojvodina would soon be sealed.

The first leg saw the Green Eagles claim a 1‑2 victory, a result bolstered by a red card shown to Vojvodina defender Kornél Szucs after just eight minutes. That early dismissal gave Ferencváros a numerical edge and set the tone for the tie.

In the second leg, Lenny Joseph delivered a low cross that Kristoffer Zachariassen turned into an empty‑net finish, extending the lead to 2‑0. After the break, Zsombor Gruber added a tap‑in to make it 3‑0, confirming the comprehensive win.

With the two‑match haul of 5‑1, Ferencváros became the opponent of the Tukkers, while the Serbians now face a trip to Amsterdam. The aggregate result ensures the Hungarian club's progression to the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Ferencváros can now look ahead to the two‑legged tie with Twente, scheduled for 23 and 30 July. Those dates will decide which side moves further in the competition.

FC Twente and Ajax have also learned their opponents for the second qualifying round, with Twente set for the Europa League and Ajax for the Conference League. Both Dutch clubs now prepare for their respective European challenges.

Vojvodina must turn its attention to securing a place in the Conference League, while Ajax awaits the same dates in the preliminary round of that competition. The Serbian side's focus shifts to the upcoming fixtures in Amsterdam.
