Ferencváros’ costly rotation raises doubts ahead of Twente clash
Ferencváros suffered a 4-2 defeat to Paks on Sunday, a loss the Hungarian side described as a ‘sensitive blow’ in the run‑up to their Europa League second‑leg against FC Twente, where they must overturn a 1‑2 deficit and restore confidence before the Thursday encounter.
De Hongaarse topclub went down 4-2 at Paks, and trainer Balázs Borbély voiced sharp criticism of his squad’s attitude after the match. He said the home side was sharper, more aggressive and deserved the victory.
In response, Borbély chose to overhaul his eleven for the upcoming European encounter with Twente, making extensive changes to the line‑up.

Despite the reshuffle, Ferencváros took the lead twice but surrendered the game after the break, a result Borbély attributed to the many alterations. He warned that a team altered so frequently will not function well and highlighted a psychological component, noting that players who had little European experience were thrust into action.
When asked whether the rotation justified the domestic defeat, Borbély replied, “No defeat is worth it. What bothers me most is the lack of aggression and mentality. Those are basic principles. I do not want to see this again.”
Looking ahead, Borbély said he does not expect such drastic changes in the coming weeks, stressing the need for stability and a workable balance between European football and the domestic league.
Vandaag, Ferencváros and Twente meet again on Thursday. The Tukkers must make a 1-2 defeat look good as they chase a comeback in the Europa League tie.
