FC Barcelone's Jules Koundé sees future clouded by injury and talks

FC Barcelone Jules Koundé finds his future in doubt after a left‑ankle injury kept him out of the Champions League final and a recent informal meeting between his agent and the club’s sporting director has sparked speculation as the season approaches the El Clasico.

Career path to Barcelona

Koundé began his professional development at Girondins de Bordeaux, where he honed his defensive skills before departing for Spain in 2019. The French international spent three seasons at Sevilla FC, establishing himself as a reliable centre‑back.

In 2022 he signed for FC Barcelone, joining the Blaugrana side that had already secured multiple domestic titles. His contract runs until June 2030, and he quickly became a key figure in the team's back line.

Recent setbacks have marred his progress. A left‑ankle injury forced him to miss the Champions League final, a match Barcelona lost 4‑2 to Paris Saint‑Germain. The same injury is expected to rule him out of the El Clasico against Real Madrid scheduled for Sunday at 21h.

On Thursday, his agent met with Deco, the club’s sporting director, in what the Spanish media described as an "informal" discussion about Koundé’s situation. The meeting, originally intended to exchange views, has now taken on greater significance for both parties.

Following the meeting, the defender’s camp denied categorically that any sale or offers had been mentioned. The club, however, has not ruled out the possibility of entertaining proposals that may arise on Deco’s desk.

While rumours of a summer move resurfaced during the last transfer window, FC Barcelone has consistently stated it has no intention of parting with the French left‑back. The ongoing dialogue suggests a cautious approach, keeping options open without committing to a transfer.
