Farioli reveals financial doubts and tactical tweaks at FC Porto

FC Porto head coach Sérgio Conceição Farioli explained that the club’s scouting of Torreense now incorporates the impact of new signings, while the core tactical framework remains similar to last season, highlighting the early‑season uncertainty of integrating fresh players into the system.

Falámos with the Torreense coach a short while ago; he knows FC Porto extremely well, unlike the early part of the season when there was a surprise that the manager handled effectively.

I asked whether, regarding Torreense, FC Porto managed to study him now with the new reinforcements, even though the base of last season’s squad remains more or less intact.

He was also asked what type of reading was made of Torreense from the previous season and this season.

"Yes, it is a mix. Of course most of the games we analysed were from last season, plus, of course, the recent preparation matches. In those recent friendly games you can clearly recognise the same structure, the same philosophy they had last season, the same ball routines, the same way of interpreting off‑ball moments." This reflects the continuity he sees in the opponent’s approach.

He added that the main difference from last season is the presence of many new players, but the club always conducts two types of analysis for every opponent: a collective review and an individual assessment.

He acknowledged that at the start of the season it is always a bit more complicated to have a clear image of who we will face with the new additions, especially how these new players will interact in the new system.

Nevertheless, he believes the picture of who they are and what they do is now there, thanks to the work of all the people involved in opponent analysis.

Now, the responsibility lies with FC Porto to find the appropriate solution and the right answer to face tomorrow’s game.
