Fans of Bayern München back sick coach after 1‑3 win

While Bayern Munich won 1‑3 in Freiburg, the fans showed their support for sick coach Vincent Kompany with a banner that read “Get well soon, Vincent. We stand by your side”, as he followed the match from the hospital.

Fans support sick coach during victory

Before the kickoff of the match against Freiburg, the Bayern fans unfurled a large banner with the message “Get well soon, Vincent”. The supporters of Bayern Munich, often referred to as Bayern fans, stood close to the sideline and cheered as the team won 1‑3. More information was shared via social media, including a photo of the banner.

Kompany watched from his hospital bed as his team dominated the match. He saw the 1‑3 victory live on a tablet and later responded with a short message. The Belgian coach remains on sick leave for several weeks, after he collapsed during a training session with the second team.

Interim coach Danks receives message from Kompany

During Kompany’s absence, assistant coach Aaron Danks took over the sporting leadership. Danks said after the match that he had received a WhatsApp message from “Vince”, in which the coach wrote “Well done” and expressed his satisfaction.

“I opened my phone and had a WhatsApp from Vince that said ‘Well done’ and that he was satisfied,” Danks said. “I immediately replied: ‘Great, and now rest!’, together with a kiss emoji.”

The message reached the interim coach at 20:00, shortly after the final minutes of the match. Danks confirmed that he responded immediately and the coach remained involved via his phone, despite his hospital admission.

Sporting director Max Eberl gave an update on Kompany’s health. “He is recovering. His condition is stable, he no longer has a headache and additional tests have been carried out. They are going well,” he said. Eberl added that there is still no definitive diagnosis, but that the victories “seem to be the best medicine” for the coach.

The support of the Bayern fans, combined with the positive results on the field, provides an important moral boost for the sick coach. While the diagnosis is still pending, the team hopes that the victories and the warm messages from the fanbase will contribute to a swift recovery of Vincent Kompany.
