Everton striker Marin Sherif fined for 61 bets
The Football Association (FA) has punished the twenty‑year‑old Everton striker Marin Sherif after he admitted to having been involved in 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. The fine is £5,000, roughly €5,900, while another source mentions a fine of just over €6,000.
Explanation of the offence
According to the FA, Sherif, who never placed the bets himself, staked a total of almost £2,000 (€2,360) from an account in his name. The FA accepted his statement that he had not placed the bets himself, but was the owner of the accounts.
Career and background information
The 1.93‑metre‑tall striker, born in Liberia and raised in the Netherlands, is a four‑time Dutch youth international with four caps for the Netherlands Under‑17. He began in the youth academy of Almere City, signed for Everton in 2019 and has a contract until mid‑2027. Sherif was previously loaned to Rotherham United and Port Vale, where he scored two goals for each club, and now plays for Everton Under‑21.
During a hearing of an independent supervisory committee, Sherif's swift admission of guilt, his cooperation with the procedure and his ‘genuine remorse’, the FA said, were taken into account. He has also trained several times with the first team of the Toffees.
The fine imposed by the FA serves as a warning to other young players active in England. Sherif must now fulfil the imposed sanction and can continue his development at Everton under the terms of his contract.
