Kompany remains proud of the Citizens despite Manchester City's turmoil

While the Citizens are going through an unprecedented financial turmoil, Vincent Kompany, former captain of Manchester City, remains proud of the eleven years he spent at the club. He celebrates the collective successes while staying focused on his current role at Bayern Munich.

Positive memories of the former captain

"I played eleven years for this club, from 2008 to 2019, and I greatly enjoyed those years as well as everything we achieved on the pitch," said Vincent Kompany. He recalls that the Citizens experienced a period rich in titles and emotions. As an iconic captain, he led the Citizens to several decisive victories. His testimony underscores an undiminished pride despite the recent dramas.

Kompany did not wish to comment on the substance of the financial case. He affirmed that he is fully focused on the most successful club in Germany and does not have, in a busy schedule, "much time to think about all these things". As the manager of Bayern Munich, he is preparing his team to face the German opponent. He is awaiting the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg, scheduled for Saturday.

Financial investigation and potential sanctions

Manchester City was found guilty by an independent commission of all 115 charges relating to the Premier League's financial rules. The contemplated sanction could range from the removal of several championship titles to a forced relegation. A possible loss of titles would also affect the club's historical records.

The club immediately lodged an appeal, the procedure launched by the Premier League having been ongoing since 2023. The investigation concerns offences committed between the 2009‑2010 and 2017‑2018 seasons, and the timely filing of the appeal suggests a considerable period before a definitive decision. The appeal process could extend over several months, or even years, before a final decision is rendered.

Manchester City, ten‑time English champion, won the titles in 1937, 1968, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. These historic successes contrast with the current threat looming over the club. These championships have cemented Manchester City's reputation as a dominant force in English football.

Thus, while Kompany maintains a positive view of his past with the Citizens, the club faces legal uncertainty that could overturn its trophy cabinet. This duality shows that glorious memories coexist with major institutional challenges. He urges supporters to remember the happy moments rather than the current controversies.
