Espanhol Llorente calls Ibiza photo hype a scandal

Spanish right‑back Marcos Llorente of Atlético de Madrid criticised the media backlash after beach photos with fellow Spanish international Ferran Torres, Barcelona striker, surfaced while they were on holiday in Ibiza following Spain’s 1‑0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup 2026 final.

The images, taken on a beach in Ibiza, show the two champions in a relaxed mood, smiling and often embracing. In one shot Llorente kisses Torres on the neck, and Torres was the scorer of the decisive goal against Argentina in the World Cup 2026 final.

After returning from the holiday, Llorente posted on Instagram while waiting for a flight, using the platform to answer fan questions on a range of topics. He engaged directly with followers about the incident and other subjects.

When asked why the pictures had turned into a “scandal”, the 31‑year‑old defender said he found it strange that two friends showing affection sparked such debate. He added that the reaction was unexpected given the progress of society.

Llorente wrote: "Surprised that, in 2026, the fact that two men demonstrate affection still generates debate... For me, there is nothing more masculine than a confident man who is not afraid to show affection for a friend." He posted the comment on his Instagram story.

The photos also captured Llorente’s wife, Paddy Charlotte, who was with the pair on the beach. She appeared beside them throughout the short video.

Torres, 26, has been single since ending his relationship with model Martina Hunter in July. His breakup with Martina Hunter was reported in July.
