Drama for Arbeloa: Fulham sinks as Ipswich resurges

The drama for Álvaro Arbeloa intensified in the Premier when Fulham, sunk in the relegation zone, saw Ipswich mount a comeback in the final minutes, nullifying the manager's first win, achieved only in the 88th minute.

Fulham remains trapped in the fight to avoid relegation

The London club suffered another setback that keeps it in the relegation places. Although Arbeloa brushed off his first win in the Premier in the 88th minute, the victory had been earned during three quarters of the match. However, Ryan Sessegnon's fine goal was left hanging in the end.

Ryan Sessegnon's spectacular goal, struck from outside the box, marked Ipswich's superiority for most of the game. Fulham dominated possession and occupied the spaces better, but wasted all the chances it created. Only at the start of the second half did Sessegnon appear, reactivating the opponent.

Ipswich turns the tide with Ouattara and O’Shea

Abdoul Ouattara equalised the score in the 87th minute, tearing down the fragile wall that Arbeloa had built. Just three minutes later, Dara O’Shea scored the winning goal in the 90th minute, sealing Ipswich's comeback. The comeback left Fulham without answer in the final moments.

In midfield, Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Josh King and Oscar Bobb formed the column that controlled Fulham's play and subdued Ipswich for much of the match. Despite their pressure, the London side failed to translate possession into goals. Gonzalo García, the only Spanish starter, also did not waste opportunities.

Álvaro Arbeloa, former Real Madrid striker, still has his back to goal and has only celebrated one goal in the Premier, scored against Chelsea in the first round. He compensates the lack of finishing with work, pressure and movements to create space for his teammates. It remains to be seen whether those arguments are enough for Arbeloa to keep him in the eleven.

Referee Lewis Smith officiated the match, assisted by the VAR team consisting of James Bell and Alex Chilowicz. Yellow cards were shown to Leif Davis (minute 18), Josh King (43), Calvin Ughelumba (50), Manuel Ángel (83), Emile Smith‑Rowe (93) and Christian Walton (96). In the substitution list, Shea Charles appeared, replaced by Manuel Ángel.

The contrast between Fulham's dominant possession and the lack of goals highlights a fragility that threatens its survival. While the drama for Arbeloa continues, the club's future will depend on turning pressure into results.
