Leipzig target El Aynaoui for midfield depth

Leipzig, based in Germany, are looking to bolster a midfield that lacked creativity last season. The 25‑year‑old Morocco international was bought from RC Lens for €23.5 million plus add‑ons last year, but never cemented a place under Gian Piero Gasperini. A loan move to Germany offers him regular playing time.

The German side secured the loan for €4 million and attached a €25 million purchase option, which could become an obligation if certain performance clauses are met. Some reports cite a total €29 million package, reflecting differing valuations. The agreement also contains a future resale‑value percentage for Leipzig.

Roma secure De Roon to replace El Aynaoui

AS Roma turned to veteran Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon to fill the void left by El Aynaoui. The 35‑year‑old Atalanta captain is leaving on a nominal fee tied to performance bonuses, as he was in the final year of his contract. Gasperini will welcome him back to the Giallorossi for the Champions League campaign.

De Roon departs Atalanta after a record 445 appearances, during which he contributed 23 goals and 32 assists. His long‑term partnership with Gasperini, forged over nine seasons, is described as the heart and soul of the former club. The move is framed as a gentleman’s agreement between the two sides.

The midfield reshuffle comes as the transfer window draws to a close, giving both clubs time to finalise their squads. Leipzig gain a young, technically gifted player with potential resale value, while Roma add experience and leadership for European competition.
