Demichelis gets a breather just before Champions League duel with PSV
While the first weeks of the season were full of setbacks for RB Leipzig, a resounding victory against Eintracht Frankfurt now offers a welcome breathing pause for coach Martín Demichelis, who will meet PSV soon in the Champions League.
Costly start and growing pressure
At the start of the new season Leipzig lost to Werder Bremen, Como in the Champions League and Bayer Leverkusen. The run of defeats put the Argentine coach under pressure, and German media began to doubt his position. Names such as Julian Nagelsmann were mentioned as possible successors.
Breakthrough against Eintracht
On Saturday an early goal from former Jong‑the Oranje midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi and a hat‑trick from Christopher Nkunku delivered a 6‑0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. A German newspaper called it a “small day of liberation” for Demichelis.

Roger Schmidt, Global Head of Soccer for the Red Bull‑imperium, confirmed that Demichelis’ position is no longer up for discussion and praised him as the right coach for Leipzig. Schmidt also denied rumours about talks with Nagelsmann.
The support from above and the convincing win give Demichelis the calm he lacked earlier in the season. With the Champions‑League‑duel against PSV on the horizon, he can now focus on the next challenge.
