Controversy over disputed penalty overshadows Rosario Central's two goals

In the bustling atmosphere of the Estadio Gigante de Arroyos, Rosario Central were seen clinching the Supercopa Internacional on Saturday, but the celebration was quickly eclipsed by a controversial penalty and a massive brawl in the catacombs.

Ángel Di María, former player of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint‑Germain, scored twice in the 1‑3 victory. He opened the scoring with a free kick, then put the team ahead 1‑2. A minute after kickoff, Estudiantes took the lead thanks to Alexis Castro.

The penalty, awarded after contact between Leandro González Pires and Enzo Copetti, sparked great anger among Estudiantes. The referee and the VAR deemed the contact sufficient, but the controversy lingered.

Verón shouted at the referee: “This is all because of you, thief!” Later he said: “The impunity with which they rob you is incredible. Is this what they make us go through all this effort for? Hahaha, this is truly a ridiculous charade.”
