Consensus on Ronaldo's return after win over Norway in Porto

After the 2‑1 victory over Norway in Porto, Portugal's head coach Jorge Jesus openly expressed his support for Ronaldo's return, while players, federation president Pedro Proença and other voices emphasized unity.

Jesus explains misunderstanding

Jesus described the current situation as an easily resolvable misunderstanding and emphasized that the final decision on a possible return in November does not rest solely with him. He said: “I don’t know what will happen. Cris is the one who will decide.”

Voices from the team and federation

Pedro Proença announced that he would mediate between Ronaldo and Jesus, and explained that after the four already played matches there would be time and calm for a clarifying conversation. New captain Bruno Fernandes called Ronaldo “the greatest symbol of our national team, our football and our country.” Full‑back Nuno Mendes and Joao Cancelo also expressed their willingness to welcome Ronaldo with open arms if he returns.

The 41‑year‑old Cristiano Ronaldo had left the national team last week because he was not used in the first leg in Norway and was not slated for the starting lineup in the subsequent clash in Denmark. Jesus spoke of a misunderstanding that is easy to resolve, and emphasized that the decision on a return in November does not rest solely with him.

In an interview with the 72‑year‑old Jesus he said: “For me, Cris is a candidate for the squad at the next call‑up – provided he plays at Al‑Nassr. If he wants to return, he will return.”

The Nations League matches also delivered a surprise: In the absence of record‑holder Gonçalo Ramos, the 25‑year‑old AC Milan striker, the goal scorer was again a different player, while Joao Cancelo netted Portugal’s 38th goal, equalising the Norwegian lead.

While the discussion about Ronaldo’s future continues, it remains clear that both the coach, the federation and the teammates share a common goal: to resolve the situation peacefully and respectfully, to give the team stability.
