Como spends, Lens sells: opposite models for the Champions League

This evening concludes the two days of the fourth matchday of the Champions League Group Stage, with Como playing at the Bollaert‑Delelis stadium, home of Lens, representing Serie A. The two clubs, although participating in the same edition, adopt opposite business and management models.
For Como it is an opportunity to increase the already high absolute value of the squad and bring in new signings to give to Fabregas, without fear of opening the wallet; for Lens, however, it is time to devise a way to rake in as many millions of euros as possible, focusing on player sales.
To understand better, just look at the recent balance of the two entities in the transfer market. This summer Lens spent €27 million, with the most expensive purchase being Titraoui for €8 million, and sold players for over €71 million, thanks mainly to the sale of Sangaré to Brentford for almost €50 million. Como opened its wallet for more than €120 million, half of which to secure Nico Paz from Real Madrid, and sold players for only €20 million.

The previous year, the year of qualification on the field, the white-and-blue side recorded a market liability of over €110 million, while the Ligue 1 club closed with a surplus of more than €45 million.
