Club Wolfsburg gives Deen midfielder Christian Eriksen health update

By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Club Wolfsburg confirmed on Thursday that Deen midfielder Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in the second half of Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine a month ago, has begun an individual recovery programme in his home country under medical supervision and with the club monitoring his progress closely.

The incident occurred during the second half of the friendly match between Denemarken and Oekraïne, when Eriksen suddenly fell to the ground and briefly lost consciousness. Medical staff attended him on the pitch and he was later taken to a hospital for observation.

Following medical assessment, Eriksen returned to Denmark to start an individual recovery programme tailored to his condition. The programme focuses on gradual cardiovascular conditioning and monitoring of heart function.

VfL Wolfsburg disclosed the update on Thursday, confirming the player’s current status and ongoing treatment. The German club emphasized that Eriksen remains under contract but his future playing role is uncertain.

It remains unclear whether the midfielder will resume his professional career after the rehabilitation period. Wolfsburg and Eriksen’s representatives have not provided a timeline for a possible return to competitive football.

Eriksen’s absence leaves a gap in Denemarken’s midfield options ahead of upcoming international fixtures. Wolfsburg will also need to adjust its squad planning for the remainder of the season without the experienced playmaker.
