Club Brugge's pursuit stalls as Sané signs for Monaco

🇧🇪

At the Jan Breydel Stadion, Club Brugge's summer scouting plan hit a snag as Senegalese defender Sadibou Sané announced his move to AS Monaco instead of the Belgian side. The 22‑year‑old, valued at €7 million, will leave FC Metz for a €10 million fee.

Club Brugge had been monitoring Sané as a potential replacement for Joel Ordóñez, who is expected to depart the Jan Breydel Stadion this summer. The club’s interest was confirmed when the defender chose Monaco over the "Venice of the North."

Sané is a versatile player capable of operating as a right‑back or a defensive midfielder. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €7 million.

At 22, the Senegalese was entering the final year of his contract with FC Metz, making a profitable sale logical for the French side. Metz therefore aimed to secure a solid fee.

He developed at the Generation Foot Academy in Senegal before joining FC Metz in the summer of 2023 through the clubs’ good relations. The move gave him immediate exposure to Ligue 1.

During the current season, while FC Metz returned to Ligue 1, Sané featured in 23 league matches and scored twice. His performances attracted interest from clubs with higher profiles.

FC Metz and AS Monaco reached an agreement for a €10 million transfer fee. Monaco will rebuild its back line without Wout Faes, who has returned to Leicester City.

With Sané’s decision finalized, Club Brugge must pursue an alternative target to replace Ordóñez. The Belgian side’s transfer strategy now looks to other options.
