Chelsea's summer push: Should Alonso snap up Lacroix?

Chelsea are eager to recruit this Crystal Palace defender, and the question looms whether manager Xabi Alonso should snap him up this summer. The Blues eye French centre‑back Maxence Lacroix, whose solid Premier League campaign has drawn attention across the league.

A recent report from Fichajes said Chelsea are eager to recruit Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. The Blues have set their sights on the French centre‑back and are keen to finalise a move this summer.

Lacroix delivered a solid campaign in the Premier League for the Eagles last season. The 26‑year‑old French defender scored three goals, provided three assists and featured in 55 matches across all competitions. He also featured in the UEFA Conference League Final 2026, celebrating the trophy with his teammates.

He is praised for his tackling, timing of challenges and ability to win the ball inside his own half. Standing at 1.90 m, Lacroix combines a strong frame with accurate distribution from the back.

Lacroix’s contract at Selhurst Park runs until the summer of 2029, meaning a free‑transfer option could emerge later if Chelsea wait. This timeline makes securing him this summer financially prudent for the Blues.

Manager Xabi Alonso could benefit from Lacroix’s experience in the Premier League, as the defender is already familiar with English football. Alonso is expected to give him a realistic chance to compete for a regular starting role at Stamford Bridge.

The contrast between Chelsea’s urgent recruitment drive and Lacroix’s proven Premier League pedigree highlights the Blues’ intent to strengthen their defence this summer. If Alonso snaps him up, the French centre‑back could become a key piece in Chelsea’s push across all fronts.
