Charlton miss Rak‑Sakyi as £5 million deal collapses, winger heads to Turkey

Charlton Athletic’s summer recruitment drive left a hole on the right wing after the club failed to re‑sign former loanee Jesurun Rak‑Sakyi, a 23‑year‑old winger who impressed with 15 goals and eight assists in 43 League One games for the club last season.

Charlton’s summer overhaul leaves a wing gap

Charlton Athletic added nine fresh faces during the 2026 summer transfer window as manager Nathan Jones seeks to cement a Championship place and push for a top‑eight play‑off spot. The new arrivals, including Danny McNamara, Karlan Grant and Nathaniel Chalobah on free deals, have helped the side win each of their opening three games. Yet the squad still lacks a natural left‑footed winger to operate on the right flank.

Tyreece Campbell and Rob Alter can cover the wing, but the Welsh manager appears to favour a specialist. A player like Jesurun Rak‑Sakyi, who thrived in his previous loan spell, would have offered a distinct option in the final third.

Failed £5 million deal and loan to Turkey

Rak‑Sakyi, 23, progressed through Crystal Palace’s academy before spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Charlton, netting 15 goals and providing eight assists in 43 League One matches. His performances convinced Palace to negotiate a £5 million permanent move back to Charlton.

Despite the agreement, the final terms were never settled and the transfer collapsed. With one year remaining on his Palace contract, the winger has now joined Kasimpasa in Turkey on loan until January, hoping to earn a new deal at Selhurst Park. Should he fail to impress, he could become a free agent in the summer.

Charlton fan pundit Chris Woodward argued, “Rak‑Sakyi has definitely made a mistake going on loan to Turkey, and one that stagnates his career.” He added that staying in England would have been “the perfect move” for his development.

Jones will be disappointed to miss out on Rak‑Sakyi, as the winger’s left‑footed flair could have complemented the existing options on the right. The club now relies on its nine newcomers to maintain momentum and chase a play‑off berth.
