JJ Gabriel rejects Chelsea to chase European move as United saga deepens

Manchester United face a growing void after 16‑year‑old JJ Gabriel announced he will leave the Premier League for a European giant, a move that comes as the Red Devils struggle to replace the departing starlet.

Why United cannot afford to lose Gabriel

Gabriel turned 16 today and was automatically added to United’s B‑list, making him eligible for first‑team matches. The England Under‑17 international had featured in United’s official season photo, signalling the club’s long‑term plans for him before his sudden demand to have his registration torn up last month.

United have been unable to train him since that demand, and despite several attempts to reconcile, his family appear intent on forcing a departure from Old Trafford.

Details of the European pursuit

understands Chelsea have been told Gabriel is leaving the Premier League, but the teenager has only eyes on a big move abroad after telling United he wants to leave Getty.

Sources close to the family say Gabriel holds an Irish passport, meaning he can join any club in the European Union once FIFA sanctions the transfer and United receive suitable compensation, which could be as little as £300,000.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are reported to lead the race for the England Under‑17 international, with Paris Saint‑Germain and Bayern Munich also expressing interest. Chelsea remain suitors, yet a domestic rival signing is unlikely until the season’s end.

Should the move materialise, Gabriel would become the latest teenage sensation to exit the Premier League for a continental powerhouse, leaving United to fill the gap left by a player already eligible for senior action.
