Casillas backs Mourinho’s Real Madrid return, warns of past clash

🇪🇸
Former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas welcomed Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new head coach, saying the move will be good for Real Madrid despite their recent trophy drought. He expressed optimism that Mourinho’s return could change fortunes after two seasons without a major trophy. Over the past weeks, numerous Real Madrid personnel have voiced reactions to Mourinho’s return. Current players have expressed delight and excitement about working under the Portuguese. Casillas, who fell out with Mourinho during the latter’s final months in his first spell, reflected on that period. He recalled being dropped for Diego Lopez in the 2012-13 season, describing it as the most difficult period of his career. Casillas discussed these memories during an interview with Brazil icon Romario. “It was the most difficult period of my career because I was the captain. I had to talk to him constantly, deal with many issues, and, in the end, something that starts as a beautiful marriage, full of love and affection, turns into a complete divorce as time goes by,” Casillas said. The remarks underline the strained relationship that once existed. When asked about the new appointment, Casillas replied, “Well, good. The club has decided that Jose has to come to Real Madrid and best of luck. Let’s hope he does well, which will be good for Real Madrid.” His comment signals optimism despite past tensions. Mourinho is noted for never shying away from bold decisions, a trait that contributed to his selection. The club, having endured two seasons without a major trophy, appears to be seeking a different direction. Expectations now rest on Mourinho to reverse the recent lack of silverware. If successful, his return could reshape Real Madrid’s fortunes and validate the confidence expressed by former players.
