Captain Kane’s brace shines as Tuchel’s England win at Wembley

Thomas Tuchel’s England secured a comfortable Nations League victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley after Morgan Rogers delivered a decisive cross for Harry Kane, who completed a brace to seal the win.

Rogers’ contribution under Tuchel

Rogers, the 24‑year‑old Chelsea signing, was given the right‑flank role after his late‑game goal in the 7‑0 win over Croatia. He struggled early, mis‑placing several wide deliveries, but before the half‑time whistle he produced a first‑time ball that found Kane inside the box, prompting the striker’s second goal.

Rogers later swung an inch‑perfect cross for Jude Bellingham in the 56th minute, only to see Lukas Horníček deny the Real Madrid midfielder’s flicked effort. Reflecting on his performance, Rogers admitted, “I wasn’t happy about a few of them. The manager looked at me after one of them and didn’t seem too happy.”

Kane’s record‑equalling night

Captain Harry Kane dominated the match, scoring twice – the first from Rogers’ assist and the second following an own‑goal by Vladimir Coufal. The brace took Kane level with Peter Shilton’s all‑time England record of 125 caps, a milestone he is poised to surpass when the team resumes the Nations League campaign next month.

Rogers, on his 26th appearance for the Three Lions, praised Kane’s “extraordinary goalscoring tally of 91 goals in 125 games” and called the striker “a real idol for young players”.

Speaking to ITV Sport’s Gabriel Clarke, Rogers highlighted the team’s intent: “We’re trying to be more positive and show ourselves. It’s a step in the right direction.” He also vowed to help Kane win the trophy he “deserves”, noting the striker has “done literally everything else for England”.

England sit second behind Spain in Group A3 after three wins and one defeat in the Nations League, and will look to build on the Wembley performance when they meet Croatia at the same venue in just over a month.
