Cape Verde's surge puts Argentina on the back foot in Miami

In Miami, Argentina opened the scoring after Messi found the net in the first half, giving the South American side an early advantage. Cape Verde, however, remained in the game and did not abandon their chances.

The second half saw Cape Verde regain belief, pressing higher and beginning to dominate possession. Their increased confidence allowed them to take control as the match progressed.

Deroy Duarte tested Cape Verde goalkeeper Dibu with a shot in the 54th minute, signalling the island nation's intent. The challenge kept the Argentine defence on alert.

Five minutes later, Duarte beat Dibu to level the score, restoring parity for Cape Verde. A slick passing sequence produced a deserved goal that underscored their growing momentum.

Argentina manager Scaloni responded by introducing Julián Álvarez and Nico González onto the pitch. The fresh attackers aimed to revive Argentina's offensive thrust.

With the new faces, Argentina began pressing more aggressively, seeking to reclaim the initiative. Their renewed intensity threatened Cape Verde's defensive shape.

Cape Verde defender Vozinha denied Messi on two separate occasions, keeping the Argentine star from extending the lead. His interventions highlighted the host's resilience.

As regular time entered its final stretch, both sides vied for the decisive breakthrough. The match continued without a clear winner as the whistle approached.
