Calcagno from the National Team launches freshness at Gala Vicenza
In the sumptuous hall of the Triveneto Football Grand Gala in Vicenza, Umberto Calcagno, president of the Assocalciatori, spoke on the sidelines of the event, emphasizing that football is experiencing a particular moment for many reasons. He highlighted the global challenges and the need to safeguard the national league.
“In other parts of the world today people look at globalization with different eyes,” Calcagno said, “we are concerned about safeguarding our league, we know how much passion there is and we know that everything that comes from the territory can be useful.” The president stressed the importance of protecting the local roots of football.
Awards for Young Talents
During the evening many young talents were awarded. “It is an award that seeks to value all components of the team a bit: the finisher matters, but also the work behind it,” Calcagno explained.
Calcagno highlighted the importance of developing young players for the National Team. “I believe that today there is an awareness that we must do something together. There are no rules that can impose the use of selectable players, but there is a commitment from all components to understand why today we can no longer produce talent as we once did,” he stated.
The president proposed directing part of the betting revenues to the football system. “We have also recently had hearings in the Senate on legislative proposals that go in this direction. Today it is difficult, although it would be desirable, to consider a different allocation of the resources we have,” he added.
Finally, Calcagno expressed confidence in the National Team. “It seems to me that the message delivered by the lads, beyond the first half against Belgium, is very positive. There is freshness and a different attitude: I think it is a nice message,” he concluded.
