Arsenal target Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane open to Premier League move
Bayer Leverkusen’s 20‑year‑old Cameroon international Christian Kofane has signalled openness to a Premier League switch as Arsenal confirm genuine interest in the young forward. His agent, Eric Depolo, told Daily Arsenal that talks are already underway for a summer transfer, but the striker reiterated his commitment to Leverkusen ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
Kofane finished his debut season in Germany with seven goals and nine assists across 44 appearances, and he raised his profile during Leverkusen’s Champions League last‑16 tie with Arsenal. The centre‑forward held his own against Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba and forced a spectacular save from David Raya in the second leg at the Emirates.
Depolo explained that “the manager [Mikel Arteta] likes him very much” and that Arsenal are actively discussing a move. He added, “There is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league – from there everything will start moving.” The agent stressed that any deal must align with both the player’s development and Leverkusen’s plans.
While Arsenal appear to have an edge – with fellow French‑Cameroonian William Saliba and Arteta’s Spanish fluency – Depolo cautioned that “it is too early to say which club is leading the race.” He listed other suitors as Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, suggesting a competitive market for the promising striker.
Speaking to a German newspaper, Kofane said, “I can certainly imagine it, yes. It’s one of the best leagues in the world, but I want to take it step by step. I’m young and still have big plans with Bayer Leverkusen.” He highlighted his comfort at the German club, noting, “Bayer Leverkusen gave me a great opportunity and a lot of confidence. I feel very comfortable here.” His contract runs until June 2029, giving Leverkusen a strong negotiating position.
Everton’s interest has reportedly intensified, with the Merseyside side making inquiries about a possible deal. Depolo reiterated that any move would have to be “the right step” for the player’s development, underscoring that Leverkusen will not be forced into a sale.
If Arsenal secure Kofane, they would be investing in a player valued at around €100 million (£85 million), described as “a complete striker for the next decade.” Both clubs will need to weigh the financial outlay against the sporting upside as the summer window approaches.
