Bruno Fernandes slams media lies while United spark comeback

Manchester United’s 3‑2 victory over Roma on Tuesday eased the pressure on manager Michael Carrick, ended a nine‑game winless run and lifted United to 17th in the Champions League league‑phase table.
Penalty sparks comeback
Bruno Fernandes converted a 58th‑minute penalty to spark the comeback from 2‑0 down. The penalty came after he had been restored to the side for the Premier League defeat by Chelsea. Fernandes, 32, said the media had spread many lies about his relationship with Carrick in recent weeks.
He added that the bench decision was fair after he criticised Carrick’s tactics following the 4‑1 loss at Como, and told Amazon Prime that speculation had been tough but the air had been cleared.
Reactions and Carrick’s future
When asked if the win would save Carrick’s job, Fernandes replied that no one needed to be saved and that the club and players needed the win after working hard to get out of the situation.
Former Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel praised Fernandes’ comments and hoped the club could draw a line under the public drama, noting that media reports are often far from the truth.

Youri Tielemans said the comeback showed big character and fight, and that United were repaying Carrick, adding that the only thing to do is stick behind him and fight for the club.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo called the win a relief and said the team had needed it for a while.
After winning 12 of his 17 games last season to guide United back into the Champions League, Carrick was given a two‑year contract.
This season United sit 17th in the Premier League with only one win from the opening nine games.
