Brighton’s Arctic generosity: Dunk rewards 407 fans before Euro clash
By MATT BARLOW, FOOTBALL WRITER, on 19 August 2026 Brighton’s players funded tickets, T‑shirts and scarves for more than 400 supporters travelling into the Arctic Circle to watch the club face Tromso, a gesture that contrasts the fans’ uncertainty with the squad’s confidence ahead of a Euro clash.
Fans' Arctic journey
More than 400 loyal supporters, identified as 407 ticket holders, made the long trek to Tromso in Norway, receiving complimentary tickets, T‑shirts and scarves paid for by the Brighton players as they entered the Arctic Circle for the Conference League play‑off.
Captain Lewis Dunk noted that "the fans didn’t know where they were going to go until the last minute," describing the trip as a long, last‑minute‑organised venture that the club chose to support financially.
Brighton's player‑led gesture
Lewis Dunk explained why the squad wanted to thank the travelling fans ahead of the first leg of the Conference League play‑off in Norway on Thursday, describing the match as a Euro clash and emphasizing the collective effort of the team.
"We as a group of players wanted to make a gesture by refunding their tickets and give them a little present," Dunk said, adding that the club hopes the fans appreciate the gesture and see it as the start of a good season.
Brighton are back in Europe for a second campaign, having reached the last 16 of the Europa League in 2023‑24 before losing to Roma after topping a group that included Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens.
"We’re not coming here thinking it’s going to be easy," Dunk continued, stressing that two games represent a season’s work, that the team has had a great pre‑season, and that as an established Premier League side they have finished high up in the table many times and back themselves against anyone.
The contrast between the fans’ arduous Arctic travel and Brighton’s confident, fan‑focused approach underlines the club’s commitment to its supporters while it aims to secure a result in Tromso and finish the job back home next week.
