Brighton push for Vušković as Premier League race hots up

🇬🇧

A Premier League club is set to make a move for Luka Vušković, the 19-year-old defender who starred for Westerlo in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. Vušković, who has already played for Hajduk Split in his native Croatia, spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Westerlo, scoring seven goals in 30 appearances.

His performances in Belgium caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur, who agreed a €11 million deal with Hajduk Split before loaning him to Hamburger SV in Germany’s Bundesliga. At Hamburg, Vušković netted six times in 30 matches, further enhancing his reputation as a dynamic centre-back.

Brighton & Hove Albion have now emerged as Vušković’s preferred destination, Vušković will only discuss terms with Brighton, who have submitted a new bid to secure his services.

Tottenham, enduring a difficult season, may be open to letting Vušković leave, but Brighton must first convince Spurs to part with their Croatian asset. The exact financial terms of Brighton’s offer remain undisclosed, though Transfermarkt currently values Vušković at €60 million.

Vušković’s stock could rise further if he delivers a strong World Cup campaign with Croatia. Clubs like FC Barcelona, previously linked with the defender, may revisit their interest if his valuation increases.

Florian Plettenberg confirmed Vušković’s preference for Brighton and the ongoing negotiations between the clubs. The Croat’s representatives are said to be facilitating talks exclusively with the Premier League side.

Vušković’s agent has not commented publicly on the transfer speculation. Brighton’s sporting director, after a disappointing campaign, is prioritising defensive reinforcements, with Vušković a key target.

Florian Plettenberg added that Vušković’s desire to join Brighton is a decisive factor in the deal’s progression. The player’s agent has restricted discussions to the Seagulls, accelerating the process.
