Borussia Mönchengladbach break six‑game slump as Japanese trio start
Borussia Mönchengladbach secured their first Bundesliga win after six opening defeats when Japanese forward Shuto Machino, making his season debut, netted the decisive goal against Stuttgart on matchday seven. The three Japanese internationals – defender Daiki Hashioka, midfielder Zenito Uno and Machino – started.
Stuttgart led 1‑0 after Elmedin Demirovic's fifth‑minute strike was only partially saved by goalkeeper Nicolas Moritz. Zenito Uno's volley set up Joe Scally, whose right‑footed heel flick equalised in the 38th minute, giving Uno his first club assist. Machino scored the winner in the 51st after a Wael Mohi cross, and Mohi headed from a Scally delivery to make it 3‑1 before Demirovic's late consolation in the 83rd minute.
Machino was withdrawn in the 84th minute, while Hashioka and Uno played the full match. The win ended a six‑game losing run, giving Borussia Mönchengladbach their first league triumph in seven fixtures. They host Paderborn on the 31st, and Stuttgart travel to Bayer Leverkusen the same day.
