Bayern Munich hand duties to staff as Kompany undergoes hospital tests
Bayern Munich announced on the 23rd that head coach Vincent Kompany collapsed while observing a second‑team training session and was taken to hospital for detailed examinations. He is receiving ongoing medical care and the club has said that coaching duties will be temporarily assumed by the existing coaching staff.
The collapse follows a viral illness that kept Kompany away from a press conference on the 21st, the day before Bayern’s Champions League group‑stage match against Arsenal, which ended in a 2‑2 draw. German media reported his condition as stable.
Sports director Max Eberl said:
“Vincent Kompany’s health is the top priority. Bayern will do everything to support his swift recovery. Vinnie is receiving all necessary medical care and will be given sufficient time to recuperate. Our trusted coaching staff will take over his duties, and the whole club wishes him a speedy recovery.”Manchester City also posted a message on X wishing the former captain a quick return to health.
