Ligue 1
Bezahaf’s first start fuels Marseille’s bid to end losing streak
Under the bright lights of the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday, 20‑year‑old Algerian defender Kelyann Bezahaf stepped onto the pitch as part of L’Olympique de Marseille’s starting eleven for the first time in the sixth round of Ligue 1 against ESTAC Troyes.
Marseille imposed their authority, securing a victory that halted a run of four consecutive defeats and ended a winless stretch that had stretched across four matchdays. The win came thanks to a brace from Amine Harit and a goal by Himad Abdelli, which turned the tide against the ESTAC side.
Genesio trusts the youth
Coach Bruno Genesio deliberately chose the occasion to hand debuts to two promising youngsters, signalling a shift in his selection policy. Both players were listed in the line‑up from the kick‑off, highlighting the coach’s confidence in the academy talent.
Bezahaf, the 20‑year‑old “Fennec”, acknowledged the club’s difficult period and insisted he must be at his best. “It is the moment to show things, that we are able to help this OM, which should normally be playing at the top of the table,” he said in the mixed zone.
He added a note of optimism for the campaign ahead. “This stage will pass very quickly. We will climb the slope, it passed through today,” Bezahaf declared, expressing belief that Marseille can reverse their fortunes.
