Benjamin Huggel praises Nati's perfect record and new players

SRF football expert Benjamin Huggel rates the performances of the Swiss national team (Nati) after four wins in four Nations League matches as outstanding and awards a grade 1 with a star.

Record in the Nations League

Switzerland has played four matches in the current Nations League phase and won each one. Thus, the return to League A for the Nati is merely a formality, according to Huggel.

The next group match takes place on 13 November in Slovenia, with a draw already sufficient to secure the group victory.

New impetus in the squad

Especially the newcomers have immediately impressed: Zachary Athekame and Sascha Britschgi were praised for their defensive work, while Ardon Jashari seized his chance and Zeki Amdouni is regarded as a genuine alternative in attack.

Vincent Sierro was less convincing after being deployed in the first half against North Macedonia.

Outlook on the upcoming matches

Despite the incidents surrounding Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo, the team remained unfazed and displayed stability and quality, emphasizes Huggel. He underlines that the team can achieve good results without the two players.

Coach Murat Yakin receives a good report: “The team has shown its potential and secured the maximum points, which is not a given.” It is clear that the depth of the Swiss squad is a decisive factor.

Huggel sums up: “Four matches, four wins – it doesn’t get better. Therefore: grade 1 with a star.” Converted to the Swiss grading system, this corresponds to a “6+”. Rosy prospects apply to the final matches in Slovenia and against Scotland in November.
