Benatia, a possible return to Italy after his departure from OM
In the corridors of the Vélodrome, Medhi Benatia's files are still circulating, recalling his tumultuous spell at Olympique de Marseille. Arriving as a sports adviser in November 2023, he quickly rose through the ranks before leaving the club.
Appointed football director in January 2025, Benatia saw the club's chaotic season force him to resign in February, to return briefly until the end of the campaign, then leave Olympique de Marseille definitively at the close of the season.
A new Italian challenge on the horizon
Since his departure, the former Moroccan international, with 66 caps, works as a consultant for Canal+, while remaining open to a new adventure.
Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto reports that AC Milan is actively searching for a sporting director to replace Igli Tare, who was dismissed in May.
Benatia’s winter gamble could cost Marseille dearly this winter
“No name has emerged yet, but new interviews are scheduled,” Moretto adds, while emphasizing Benatia’s profile.
Benatia, who played for Juventus between 2016 and 2019, would be “delighted to return to work in Italy, a country he knows very well,” according to the same journalist.
It remains to be seen whether the Lombard club will retain the former defender and whether he will accept the proposed challenge.
