Belgian midfielder draws interest from England, Italy and Spain
The chances of Arne Engels completing a high-profile transfer this summer are rising by the minute. Clubs in England, Italy and Spain have all registered strong interest, with a deal expected to be finalised within the next week.
Arne Engels, formerly of Club Brugge, has attracted attention from multiple European heavyweights. Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have been particularly persistent in their pursuit, while Celtic Glasgow have already received a formal bid for the player. The outcome of that offer will now shape the next steps for both the Scottish club and the 22-year-old midfielder.
Engels’ stock has surged in England following a standout season with Celtic Glasgow. At Forest, where interest remains intense, he is seen as a potential replacement for Eliot Anderson, who has since joined Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham are also among the English clubs monitoring the Belgian midfielder closely.
Beyond England, AS Roma and Atlético Madrid have placed Engels high on their priority lists. Roma are preparing a formal bid, while Villarreal have recently emerged as an additional suitor. The volume of interest has now reached a point where it can no longer be counted on one hand.
Engels’ journey from Club NXT to FC Augsburg and then to Celtic Glasgow has been rapid. A resolution is expected next week, allowing him to join his new club in time for pre-season preparations. His final matchday appearance for Celtic saw him lift the league title, and while Champions League football remains a possibility, a career-defining move appears imminent.
Currently under contract for two more years at Celtic Glasgow, Engels has been assigned a market value of €20 million by Transfermarkt.
