Beijing boost for Sinja Kraus: Last‑16 opens world‑ranking perspective
Sinja Kraus has, by reaching the round of 16 at the WTA‑1000 tournament in Beijing, not only secured a place among the best 16, but also improved her ranking by twenty places to No. 75 – a clear boost that fuels her ambitions for the world rankings.
Successful appearance in Beijing
The 24‑year‑old Viennese reached the round of 16 in Beijing, where she lost to the Czech Nikola Bartunkova 0‑6 6‑4 3‑6. Despite the defeat, she used the experience to significantly boost her ranking. “She exploited it mercilessly,” Kraus analyzed the decisive break in the third set.
Outlook on Wuhan and other tournaments
With the place among the best 16, Kraus has also secured a spot in the qualifying draw for the next WTA‑1000 tournament in Wuhan. Regardless of the outcome there, her goal remains to play in the main draw and achieve her sixth entry into a tournament of the highest category.
After Wuhan, Kraus plans further appearances in Osaka and will then decide whether to also compete in Guangzhou. These tournaments are intended to help her play consistently at a high level and achieve further ranking jumps.
A year earlier Kraus was still fighting to break into the Top 100. Today she is already established there and looks ahead: “The Top 50 are, I think, definitely possible,” she said. Her new goal is a place at the front of the world rankings.
The Austrian player is credited with a lot of confidence. In an interview with the APA she said: “I have made a big leap because I have gained the confidence to perform at big tournaments and keep up with very good players.”
The report is by Maxim Shemetov for Reuters and underscores how Kraus draws momentum from Beijing to further solidify her position in the world rankings.
