Bayern's point loss after Neuer's record blunder against Augsburg
Bayern Munich lost three points to FC Augsburg on Saturday afternoon, leaving the reigning champion now two points behind league leader Borussia Dortmund. The result came after a huge blunder by Manuel Neuer and a goal from former PSV player Ismael Saibari at the WWK Arena.
Early blunder yields record goal
The match started dramatically at the WWK Arena. Just eight seconds after kickoff, the ball received a direct pass to Manuel Neuer, who tried to flick the ball over his own goalkeeper Robin Fellhauer. The attempt failed completely and Fellhauer capitalised, scoring the fastest goal ever in the Bundesliga.
Bayern could not respond quickly; long-range shots from Luis Díaz and Saibari missed goalkeeper Finn Dahmen. Before halftime, Harry Kane hit the top of the crossbar, while Augsburg defender Juma Bah missed a chance to make it 2-0. The home side remained under pressure and could not find an answer.
Saibari rescues Bayern with crucial strike
After a VAR intervention that nullified an earlier Augsburg goal, Kane found Saibari to the mark. The former PSV player struck with his right foot his second goal of the season, making the score 1-1 and averting a defeat.
Not long after, Augsburg continued the pressure. Rodrigo Ribeiro received a cross from Calvin Brackelmann, which he pushed into the net after a mistake by Neuer, securing the 2-1 for the home side.
Draw keeps pressure on title race
Fifteen minutes from time, substitute Nathaniel Brown tapped in Bayern's first goal, making the score 2-2. Later, a goal from Serge Gnabry was disallowed by VAR for offside, and shortly before the end Jeffrey Gouweleeuw received a red card.
Bayern must fight Augsburg, only stumbling block, at Allianz Arena
With the point, Bayern remains two points behind the record champions Borussia Dortmund. On the same matchday, Bayer Leverkusen, with Mark Flekken in goal, climbed to fourth place after a win over FSV Mainz 05.
