Bayern's €55m signing Saibari sidelined by Coupe injury
Moroccan midfielder Ismaël Saibari, Bayern Munich’s €55 million summer signing from PSV Eindhoven, remains sidelined after sustaining a Coupe injury this summer, meaning he has not yet joined the Bavarian squad for training or matches and is currently training separately under an individual programme at the club’s facilities.
Saibari completed his move from PSV Eindhoven to Bayern Munich this summer for a reported fee of €55 million, reflecting the German side’s investment in a versatile midfielder who can also operate as a forward.
He has not yet fully recovered from the injury he contracted during the Coupe du monde earlier this summer, which has kept him from travelling with the Bayern squad.
For now Saibari continues to train apart from the main group, following a personalised programme at Bayern’s training centre while the rest of the team prepares in Asia.
Bayern, coached by Belgian Vincent Kompany, is on a preparation camp in Asia, and fellow German‑based players Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Jamal Musiala are also working on their fitness back in Germany.
The club has a friendly against Jeju SK on Tuesday afternoon, followed by an exhibition versus Aston Villa in Hong Kong three days later, and Saibari could make his first appearance in the friendly against RB Leipzig scheduled for 15 August.
Because he missed the Asian camp, Saibari’s debut will be postponed until he is deemed fit, with his integration dependent on progress in the individual rehabilitation programme.
