Bayern Munich stalls on Rio Ngumoha as Liverpool retain forward

🇬🇧 9 June 2026

Bayern Munich launched an assault to sign Rio Ngumoha from Liverpool. Personal terms have been agreed with the 17‑year‑old winger. Sporting director Richard Hughes is not willing to sell Ngumoha.

Ngumoha has already made his England senior debut and is under contract until 2028. He played a marginal role under Arne Slot last season. Under incoming head coach Andoni Iraola he is expected to feature more prominently.

Cody Gakpo, 27, signed a new contract last summer worth around £250k per week until 2029. He is unhappy about the prospect of playing behind Ngumoha next season. Gakpo has instructed his camp to explore other clubs.

Aston Villa, Tottenham, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and RB Leipzig have all shown interest in Gakpo. Liverpool would listen to a significant offer for the forward who scored seven top‑flight goals last season.
