Bayern München seek Brighton intensity to unsettle Arsenal

At the Allianz Arena, former world champion Shkodran Mustafi warned that Brighton had exposed Arsenal’s frailties, a warning he relayed while speaking about FC Bayern München’s upcoming Champions League tie. The German defender highlighted the relevance of the lesson for the German giants.

Brighton’s 3-0 lesson

Brighton, a Premier League club, thrashed the Gunners 3‑0 on 19 September, handing Arsenal their only defeat of the season. “Brighton hat gezeigt, wie verwundbar Arsenal ist”, Mustafi told Absolut Fußball powered by Münchner Merkur/tz. He praised the way Brighton pressed intensely, won midfield duels and stressed Arsenal’s back line.

Mustafi’s tactical blueprint

Mustafi, co‑coach of the German U21 side, argued that the “intensive Art” Brighton displayed could be replicated by Bayern. “Brighton hat sie sehr intensiv angelaufen, viele Duelle im Mittelfeld gewonnen, viele zweite Bälle erobert”, he explained, noting that continuous pressure forced Arsenal into untenable situations.

Bayern’s own edge

The German trainers, led by Fabian Hürzeler, believe Bayern can sustain that intensity for the full 90 minutes and add a higher quality level. Mustafi added that the Allianz Arena factor should not be underestimated. He also pointed to Arsenal’s confidence after winning the English championship and Bayern’s improved squad depth, citing national‑team forward Kai Havertz.

Prediction

Confident in Bayern’s progress since a 1‑3 preseason loss in London, Mustafi concluded, “Ich tippe, dass es am Ende die Bayern ziehen werden.”
